Main job function
The position is a specialist with proven experience in the field of civil design with specialization in Structural Engineering. She/He will work within the Engineering department on the design and construction of renewable power plants (wind and solar), energy storage facilities and HV Substations and HV Transmission lines.
She/He will develop basic and detailed design of civil structural works (foundations and structures, etc.) performing FEM structural calculation too. She/He will review civil structural deliverables issued by External Designer/Supplier relevant to foundation of equipment and structures, foundation of Wind Turbine Generator, steel or reinforced concrete structures, tracker/fixed structures supporting PV modules, transmission lines.
Qualifications
- BSc in Civil Engineering minimum requirement; MSc in Structural Civil Engineering is a plus.
- Eng is a plus;
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in civil structural engineering;
- Experience in engineering Company will be a plus;
- Experience in design of reinforced concrete works and steel structures
- Experience in Renewables Energies specially on wind and solar technologies will be a plus;
- Fluent English is required;
- Knowledge of informatics: Microsoft Office suite
- AutoCAD 2D
- Finite Element Method Software (STAAD or SAP2000 or MIDAS or similar). Usage of FEM software is a must
- BIM (Revit o/Tekla) will be a plus
- Basic knowledge of hydraulic, geotechnical and infrastructural softwares (Hec-ras, Autodesk Civil3D, PLAXIS or similar) will be a plus.
Criteria
Address the relevant civil engineering specialized topics for all project development stages (permitting phase, construction and commissioning phase) in order to ensure the compliance with Company Safety & quality best practices, technical specifications, guidelines and objectives
Perform feasibility studies, preliminary, basic and detail design of foundations and steel and reinforced concrete structures for renewable plants (Solar, Wind, BESS, Electrical Substation, etc.);
Review the design performed by Supplier/External consultants relevant to civil works (reinforced concrete foundation for equipment, WTG foundations, reinforced concrete and steel structures, trackers/fixed structures supporting PV modules, retainment walls, HV lines structures and foundations, buildings and basins) according to applicable technical codes and Company specification;
Review Bill of quantities, IFC drawings and shop submittals to support construction.
Work closely with the Project Engineer and other Team members for development and construction projects;
Plan, supervise and co-ordinate the civil design activities throughout the entire life cycle of the project;
Perform site surveys for various renewable plants both in development and construction and provide input to the budgeting committee, technical support, lesson learnt and RCAs/NCR;
Participate to technical meetings and follow up the design activities performed by external Suppliers;
Prepare technical specifications and contractual documents, perform the technical evaluation of the offers submitted by the Vendors;
Support the Team for task of technical complexity;
Work on optimization of designs and technical specifications to increase competitiveness while still ensuring quality is maintained;
Coordinate proposed deviations with the Design unit and keep track of local deviations at country & global level;
Support Operational and Maintenance Activities;
Support the Civil Design Unit at global level by guidelines, specifications, best practices, lessons learned, experiences coming from local projects.
Remuneration: R900 – R950 per annum
