Electrical Engineer – SSEE

Main job function

 

The Electrical Engineer will assist with the design, planning, and implementation of solar power systems, BESS solutions, and associated electrical infrastructure. The role also requires a strong focus on project management, ensuring the successful delivery of projects on time, within scope, and on budget. The Electrical Engineer will ensure compliance with industry standards and provide technical sign off on all projects.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Design and Engineering:

  • Assist in the electrical design of solar power systems, BESS, and electrical infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance with local and international standards and codes.
  • Conduct load flow analysis, electrical modelling, and performance simulations for solar and storage systems.
  • Perform detailed design calculations, equipment selection, and sizing for electrical components, including inverters, transformers, cabling, switchgear, and other electrical systems

Project Management:

  • Develop and track project timelines, schedules, and budgets to ensure milestones are met.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, contractors, and suppliers to ensure smooth execution of projects.
  • Oversee quality control, health, safety, and environmental (HSE) requirements during project implementation

System Integration & Testing:

  • Support the integration of solar and BESS systems into the broader electrical infrastructure.
  • Oversee system commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal system performance.
  • Assist in the preparation of as-built documentation and final project reporting.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Liaise with clients, project stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to ensure all project requirements are met.
  •  Provide technical support and guidance to team members, clients, and external partners

Continuous Improvement:

  •  Stay up to date with the latest trends and advancements in solar power, BESS, and electrical infrastructure technologies.
  •  Identify opportunities for process optimization and efficiency improvements in project delivery.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in electrical design and project management, ideally within the renewable energy sector.
  • In-depth knowledge of solar power systems, BESS, and electrical
  • Familiarity with relevant design software (e.g., AutoCAD, PVsyst, ETAP, Helioscope or similar).
  • Strong understanding of electrical codes and standards, including local South African standards (SANS) and international standards.
  • Proven ability to manage projects, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex electrical
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact with various
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional registration with ECSA (Engineering Council of South Africa) or
  • Experience with solar projects, microgrids, or hybrid power
  • Knowledge of BESS operation, design, and integration with renewable energy systems.
