Plant Manager (Commercial) – Construction Plant Hire Equipment – SSPM

Main job function

Our client a diversified Property development company, is looking for an experienced Plant Manager (Commercial) to assume the overall responsibility for working with the Plant team to achieve it’s KPI’s and ensure relevant financial, cost and compliance controls are in place.

Qualification:

 

Relevant Technical Qualification for dealing with Plant and Equipment/ bachelor’s degree: Business Administration/ Operations Management/ or B Comm/ Finance

 

Experience and Skills Required:

 

  • 5-7 Years of Plant Management experience within a plant and equipment environment/ ops management or a similar role
  • Minimum of 5 years managerial experience – both people and processes
  • Thorough understanding of operations management and production scheduling to be able to plan and forecast (off season when plant is not being utilized, external hire opportunities ).
  • Ability to identify opportunities and present proposals for approval to management on rates/ good deals for hire / market adjacent opportunities
  • Experience in the specific industry or sector relevant to the company (construction) would be considered an
  • Leadership and management skills with a coaching and mentoring approach
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and effective interpersonal skills key
  • Adept at analyzing data for decision-making, and forecasting revenues and expenses
  • Experience in benchmarking plant processes against best practice
  • Ability to analyze problems and strategize for better solutions
  • Excellent conflict-resolution and decision-making abilities
  • Self-starter with the ability to operate with minimum supervision
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Excel with previous exposure to Software packages (CCS [Candy]) and build smart (Optional) considered an advantage
  • SHEQ understanding

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage plant teams and ensuring all Plant KPI’s are met such as plant availability and reliability
  • Ensure the good working condition of plant and equipment, managing the plant maintenance budget and processes accordingly
  • Ensure maintenance and repair operations of plant and equipment takes place
  • Assume responsibility for the cost control of all plant and spares under his/her control
  • Make recommendations on new plant purchases
  • Ensure maximum efficiency while meeting production goals set by management teams or stakeholders
  • Identify potential problems and points of friction between plant and other teams (e.g. construction) finding solutions to resolve
  • Provide the correct information, estimating and analyzing for overheads and labor cost and presenting alternatives where possible
  • Ensure plant readiness for implementation of new business project
  • Monitor performance against budget (expense controls, variances, )
  • Evaluate resource usages such as manpower, equipment, stock levels, and maintenance versus cost effectiveness to identify areas where savings can be made/ to ensure the optimal and efficient use of resources
  • Identify opportunities to expand or shift course based on market changes/ business requirements
