Going for an interview can be very daunting. The most important element of an interview is being honest and being true to yourself.
Always ensure that you thoroughly research the company that you interviewing with before the meeting. Most companies adopt competency based interviewing techniques which focusses on asking questions that require you to explain past situations. Read through the job requirements and spend time thinking of examples of times that you can talk about that illustrate the skills and competencies that they require. They will often ask you what your strengths and weaknesses are. Don’t be tempted to say you have no weaknesses, this just comes across as insincere as we all have some weaknesses. Instead try think of your weaknesses and then explain how they can also be strengths and what measures you take to overcome them. Always arrive early to the interview and dress formally. Even if you think the company has a casual culture, I would not suggest arriving to an interview in jeans or casual clothes. Don’t ever chew gum in an interview (believe it or not, this does happen)
Don’t try and be someone you are not, this will be picked up by the manager and you also don’t know exactly what they looking for so some people act over confident when the client is seeking a humble hard working person. Sincerity goes a long way. Don’t ever over sell your skills.
When the interview is over and it is now time to wait for feedback, show you pro-active but not pushy.
