Purpose of the position
- A highly motivated individual with the relevant skill sets, capable of establishing and developing vendor relationships in Sub-Saharan Africa, including transporters/brokers and port operators etc.
- Procurement of transport and ocean freight rates locally and internationally for both import and export cargo
- Preparation and sending of project quotations & Proposals
- Maintain and develop existing and new customer relations with specific focus on Project Cargo.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Attending to customer enquiries.
- Actively participate as a member of the South Africa team and working closely with other Commercial and business unit Managers within Sub Saharan Africa and other global entities
- Compile proposals
- Request rates from service providers
- Establish and develop vendor relationships with abnormal transporters, breakbulk vessel brokers/carriers, Container shipping lines and freight forwarders
- Maintain high standard of service delivery
- Communicate with suppliers and clients
- Resolve problems efficiently.
- Address internal and external operational issues, liaising and coordinating with vendors (ports operators, transporters etc.) and internal clients
- Liaise and update clients
- Resolve queries
- Monthly commercial activity reporting in form of current sales pipeline
- Send customer on boarding docs and compile completed docs for submission to legal
- Work through service agreements for secured business with legal department and projects head

- Africa Freight & Projects team, Commercial team
- Africa Projects Commercial Team

- Carrier agents and freight forwarders
- Export and Project clients locally and internationally with focus on Chinese and project cargo customer base

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential
- Minimum a college diploma/degree from recognized Institute
- Minimum 3-years sales/estimator experience in Sub Saharan Africa Project Forwarding especially via ports of entry such as Durban, Beira, Dar es Salaam and Walvis Bay.
- Excellent commercial and entrepreneurial flair is critical to the success of this role
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
- Strong builder of relationships with interest parties
- Good knowledge of the shipping and logistics management industries specifically focused on:
- Local & Over border transport of Breakbulk, OOG and heavy lift
Preferred
- Experience in 3PL logistics sector/project cargo/mining industry is preferred
- Have ability to attract new customers/business outside of the current project, mining, metals and mineral markets such as renewable energy
- Previous dealings with Chinese customer base & Chinese verbal abilities
